The Kampala Metropolitan Police have clarified reports surrounding the arrest of a 16-year-old student in connection with a land dispute in Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District.
According to a police statement issued by the Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the incident occurred on October 21, 2025, when Aisha Nakayeke, a 35-year-old businesswoman, reported a case of threatening violence against Moses Talemererwa, a Senior Two student and resident of Munkabira Cell.
Investigations revealed that Nakayeke had legally purchased a 40ft x 50ft plot at Munkabira LC1 from Yamulemye Ibrahim and his wife Muyiya Nkwangala for shs5.7 million in January 2024.
Following Yamulemye’s death, his family requested permission to temporarily bury him on the same plot, a request Nakayeke accepted.
However, during a visit to the property on October 21, Nakayeke and her colleague Buule Livingston allegedly encountered Talemererwa, the deceased’s son, who reportedly brandished a panga and chased them off, insisting that the land did not belong to Nakayeke.
Police arrested the student the following day, October 22, and later released him on bond after questioning, noting that he is a minor and was not directly involved in the land transaction. His release was secured by the area chairperson and two sureties.
Police have since advised Nakayeke to pursue civil remedies to recover her money, emphasizing that the matter is primarily a civil land dispute rather than a criminal case.
“The suspect was released on bond because he is a juvenile and not a party to the land sale. The complainant has been guided to seek civil redress,” said SSP Patrick Onyango, PRO Kampala Metropolitan Police.
