KAMPALA — A suspected robbery gang accused of terrorising residents and businesses across Kampala using motorcycles and pangas is set to face court as police intensify investigations into a string of aggravated robberies, attempted robberies and attempted murders.
Kampala Metropolitan Police says it has made significant progress in cracking the cases, with four suspects currently in custody and six others already on remand at Luzira Prison expected to be produced in connection with the investigations.
The latest developments have brought renewed attention to a series of daring robberies in which large sums of money and valuables were reportedly taken from victims in different parts of the capital.
Among the cases under investigation is the August 11, 2026 robbery of a fuel station manager along the Kasubi-Makerere-Kikoni Road, where suspects allegedly made away with Shs25.8 million.
Police also link the group to an earlier incident on July 24, when a businessman travelling along Kawaala Road was reportedly robbed of Shs4.8 million, an iPhone 16 Pro Max, a bracelet and a silver chain.
“The suspects have been linked to a number of aggravated robberies within the Kampala Metropolitan Area, and our investigations are continuing to establish the full extent of their involvement,” said Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson.
The investigations have linked the suspects to a Shs327 million robbery in Wampewo, Shs35 million at Kiwatule and Shs15 million along Ntinda-Kalinabiri Road. Other cases include the alleged theft of Shs13.5 million in Kamwokya and Shs33.4 million at Namugongo.
Police are also investigating the alleged robbery of Shs620 million from Forex Bureau workers along Kampala Road, one of the largest amounts cited in the cases.
An attempted robbery involving Shs27 million at Namugongo has also been attributed to the same group.
The four suspects currently in police custody have been identified as Yasin Ssemanda, also known as Zanda; Ramathan Jjingo, alias Rama; Cohen Kasumba, alias Farouk; and Eric Musoke.
Six other suspects already on remand at Luzira Prison over a separate aggravated robbery case will also be produced before court on production warrants in relation to the latest cases. They are Ismeal Kasozi, Shafik Mulindwa, Ivan Gizamba, Kawaganya Tomimu, Muhamad Kayira and Ivan Ongom.
The suspects in police custody are expected to appear before Mwanga II Chief Magistrates Court, where the cases will take their next legal step.
Police are also working to recover property and money suspected to have been obtained through the alleged criminal activities, while detectives continue to pursue other suspects still at large.
The development comes amid continued police efforts to dismantle robbery networks operating within the Kampala metropolitan area, particularly those accused of using motorcycles to move swiftly between locations and weapons to intimidate victims.
However, the suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law.
