Authorities have arrested two suspects allegedly linked to a sophisticated attack on electricity infrastructure at Azam Construction Company Limited in Buligobe Village, highlighting growing concerns over organized sabotage targeting essential services across the region.
The suspects, identified as Mzee Asheraf and Mubiru Geoffrey, were apprehended following a rapid response by the Mukono Canine Unit and Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) investigators after a security guard reported severed electric cables at the construction site on February 24, 2026.
Police deployed Judge, a specially trained canine, to track the perpetrators’ scent for over 300 meters, leading directly to the suspects’ residence. During searches, authorities recovered cutting tools, footwear bearing soil consistent with the crime scene, and other materials linking the pair to the act of vandalism.
Officials caution that such attacks on critical infrastructure are not isolated incidents and may be part of a broader network of criminal activity threatening power and public safety across multiple regions. Investigations remain ongoing, with the suspects in custody as police explore potential wider connections.
