Police in Rubanda District have launched a manhunt for a 17-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of a seven-year-old pupil who was fatally stabbed in Nyamweru Sub-county.

The suspect has been identified as Ainamani Bureya, a 17-year-old peasant and resident of Kyokezo Parish, Nyamweru Sub-county, Rubanda District.

According to preliminary police reports, the deceased, Ainebyona Hosea, a seven-year-old pupil at Hamukobakoba Nursery School, was attacked and stabbed while returning home from school on June 16, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. in Kyokezo Parish, Nyamweru Sub-county.

The suspect allegedly used a sharp object believed to be a panga during the attack, inflicting fatal injuries on the juvenile.

Police officers from Rubanda Central Police Station responded promptly to the scene, documented evidence, and commenced investigations.

Speaking on the incident, Nelson Tumushime, SP, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, condemned the act and urged the public to cooperate with security agencies.

“We strongly condemn this senseless act that has claimed the life of an innocent child. We appeal to anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect to immediately report to the nearest police station. We remain committed to ensuring that justice is served,” said SP Nelson Tumushime.
