The Uganda Police Force is set to unveil its annual Crime report for 2024. An official announcement via their X account indicates that the report will be launched on February 19, 2025, at the Police Headquarters located in Naguru, a suburb of Kampala, starting at 11:00 AM.
The notice specifies that attendance is strictly by invitation only.
This report will serve as a benchmark for analyzing crime trends in comparison to previous years.
Beyond being a tool for public accountability, it will assist the police and government in identifying areas that require more focus, ultimately leading to effective strategies for reducing crime across the nation.
According to the 2023 Crime and Road Safety Report, there was a slight decline of 1.5% in reported crimes, dropping from 231,653 cases in 2022 to 228,074 cases.
Of these incidents, 84,904 were brought to court, while 48,632 cases were not pursued, and 94,535 remained under investigation at the time the report was compiled.
In the past year, the police force prioritized enhancing discipline and upholding human rights by establishing disciplinary courts in every district.
This initiative represents a significant advancement for the force, aimed at promoting accountability and ensuring that officers meet professional and ethical standards.
Notably, out of 933 allegations of human rights abuses by police personnel, 794 were thoroughly investigated.
