The Uganda Police Force (UPF) has initiated the recruitment of 10,000 probationer police constables (PPCs).

This effort coincides with the nation’s preparations for the upcoming 2026 general elections.

Eligible citizens of Uganda are invited to submit their applications by the deadline of March 21, 2025.

As stated by the police, applicants must be Ugandan citizens and should hold either a valid National ID or a confirmation letter from the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA).

They must have no criminal record, should be ready to undertake the requisite Police Basic Training, should be physically and medically fit, should be ready to work for long hours and at times under difficult conditions, should be ready to work in any part of the country, should possess good communication skills, and must not be a serving or former officer in other forces.

The applicants must possess a UCE certificate (Senior Four) or its equivalent obtained in a sitting not earlier than 2020, with at least four (4) credits, including either English or Mathematics, and must have at least a pass in the other subject (for the traditional grading system); and at least four (4) “C”s, including either English or Mathematics, and must have at least a D’ grade in the other subject. (for those graded under the Competency- Based System).

How to apply

The applicants must submit a hand-written application addressed to the Inspector General of Police, accompanied by photocopies of academic documents, photocopy of the National identity Card, three; with a recent passport size photograph, identity Card or introductory letter from the previous school and recommendation letters from LCI, LCIll and RDC (from the respective districts of residence) in the file folde.

The file should be delivered to the Police District /Divisional Headquarters not later than March 21, 2025.

Police warns that impersonation or presentation of forged documents shall lead to arrest and prosecution in courts of law.

“Applicants who conceal or provide false information shall be disqualified,” the statement reads.

Appointment in the Uganda Police Force shall be after completion of the Police Basic Training.

They encouraged female candidates to apply.

According to the statement, the possession of a valid driving permit will be an added advantage, while those who possess higher academic qualifications are not supposed to apply.

The police say all stages of the recruitment process are completely free of charge and applicants should refrain from paying any money to anyone for any services during the recruitment process.
