In the early hours of Friday morning, July 25, 2025, security forces executed a coordinated intelligence-led operation in the Maya 13 and Nanziga areas of Nsangi, a move authorities say is part of an intensified effort to dismantle pockets of criminal activity plaguing the region.
At about 3:00am, officers descended on the two neighborhoods, arresting 16 individuals, 15 men and one woman, suspected to be behind a string of simple robberies and burglaries that have unsettled residents in recent weeks.
According to police spokesman Patrick Onyango, the suspects are currently detained at Nsangi Police Division and face charges including public nuisance and unlawful possession of narcotic substances. Their case files are now awaiting review and guidance from the Office of the State Attorney.
“This operation reflects our unwavering commitment to crime prevention and enhancing public safety,” he noted, emphasizing that the raid was part of a broader intelligence-driven strategy aimed at restoring order in the division.
Intelligence-led policing, wherein operations are guided by data and criminal profiling, has become central to Uganda’s evolving law enforcement approach.
The strategy prioritizes the identification of high-risk offenders and criminal hotspots, allowing for more focused and effective deployment of resources.
