WAKISO District: The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Wakiso District, Justine Mbabazi, has urged residents of Busukuma Division to actively participate in government economic empowerment programs as a deliberate strategy to fight household poverty.
Mbabazi emphasized the importance of initiatives such as Emyooga, the Parish Development Model (PDM), the GROW Program, and Youth Livelihood Programs, noting that these interventions are designed to improve household incomes and promote sustainable livelihoods.
Her remarks were delivered by the NRM Chairman for Busukuma Division, Nansana Municipality, Ntanzi Male, during an appraisal meeting between Emyooga beneficiary groups and officials from the Kampala Metropolitan Emyooga SACCO leaders’ presidential vote mobilization team. The team was on a field visit to assess the performance of the Emyooga program across the 15 divisions of the Kampala Metropolitan Area and Central Region, in line with presidential directives ahead of a proposed increase in funding for well-performing SACCOs.
Mbabazi noted that Wakiso District has registered commendable performance in the utilization of Emyooga funds. However, she expressed concern that due to the district’s large population, many eligible residents have not yet benefited from the program. She said this gap justifies the need to increase and extend funding to reach more communities.
Speaking at the same meeting, Ntanzi Male, who is also an aspirant for the NRM mayoral flag for Busukuma Division, urged beneficiaries to ensure timely recovery and proper management of Emyooga funds so that more members can access the revolving capital. He further encouraged residents to support the NRM presidential candidate and all party flag bearers in the forthcoming national elections.
Meanwhile, the Busukuma Division Emyooga SACCOs Coordinator, Nsubuga Baker, who also heads the Boda Boda Riders Emyooga SACCO Association, highlighted the need for professional skills training among beneficiaries to enhance business discipline and effective fund management.
The Chairman of the Kampala Metropolitan Emyooga SACCO Leaders’ Presidential Vote Mobilization Team, Richard Tumwebaze, commended Busukuma residents for their commitment to fighting household poverty through Emyooga. He revealed that the government, through the Microfinance Support Centre (MSC), plans to inject additional funding into SACCOs that demonstrate strong performance indicators.
