KAMPALA, Uganda: Francesco Arezzo, the President of Rotary International, has officially chartered 16 new Rotary clubs in Uganda, calling on members to embrace the Rotary spirit and serve humanity with dignity and dedication.
The chartering ceremony was held on 21 February 2026 at the Speke Resort Munyonyo Convention Centre during the 2026 Rotary Membership Awards Dinner. At the event, Arezzo presented Rotary pins and official charters to the new clubs through their respective presidents.
Among the newly chartered clubs was the Rotary Club of Kiwafu Breeze in Muyenga. The club’s president, Erostus Nsubuga Njuki, received Rotary pin and Charter No. 227511 under District 9214, issued on 13 January 2026.
Speaking on the sidelines of the colorful ceremony, Nsubuga expressed gratitude and a strong sense of responsibility.
“We are humbled to receive our charter from the Rotary International President. As a team, we pledge to work hard and serve humanity with dignity while delivering impactful community projects,” he said.
The event drew more than 5,000 Rotarians and Rotaractors from across the country. Uganda’s Minister of Health, Ruth Aceng, represented Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja at the ceremony.
Commitment to Community Impact
Nsubuga revealed that the Rotary Club of Kiwafu Breeze, which meets every Wednesday at Afro Park Hotel in Muyenga, will focus on membership growth and resource mobilization to implement life-changing community projects.
A key priority for the club will be combating sickle cell disease, which continues to claim hundreds of vulnerable lives, particularly children. The club aims to mobilize financial and human resources to support affected families and strengthen community interventions.
Leveraging Business for Service
Nsubuga is a prominent Ugandan agricultural entrepreneur and biotechnology innovator, widely recognized as a pioneer in tissue culture technology for agriculture in Uganda.
He serves as Chief Executive Officer of Agro-Genetic Technologies Ltd (AGT Laboratories) and Ereistero Investments Ltd, both based in Buloba along Mityana Road.
Established in 2002, AGT Laboratories became the first privately owned company in Uganda to apply biotechnology through tissue culture techniques for the commercial micro-propagation of crops such as bananas, coffee, pineapples, Irish potatoes, trees, medicinal plants, and fragrant crops.
Through Ereistero Investments and its affiliated operations, the companies cultivate tissue culture medicinal and fragrant crops and add value by producing perfumes, diffusers, herbal teas, and scented candles. They are also leading producers of loofahs and value-added loofah products, including slippers, bathing loofahs, and dishwashing loofahs for corporate clients.
Nsubuga noted that part of the profits from these enterprises will be reinvested into Rotary community development projects.
He emphasized that resources generated from his businesses will help fund programs aimed at supporting vulnerable populations, particularly children affected by sickle cell disease.
