KAMPALA, Uganda– Spiro, Africa’s largest electric vehicle (EV) company, has entered into a strategic partnership with Rapa Thomson Ricky, Co-Founder and Director of SafeBoda, to amplify awareness and adoption of electric mobility solutions in Uganda, particularly among boda boda riders and delivery service providers.
Leveraging Ricky’s deep-rooted influence within the boda boda community and his digital reach, the collaboration will focus on on-ground activations, local engagement, and social media campaigns to promote Spiro’s clean, affordable electric motorbike ecosystem.
“This partnership is a powerful step forward in our mission to transform urban transport in Africa,” said Kaushik Burman, CEO of Spiro. “By joining forces with Ricky, we are bridging authentic community connections with innovative technology to accelerate clean, locally built mobility solutions.”
Gaurav Anand, Country Head of Spiro Uganda, emphasized the alignment between Ricky’s community-first ethos and Spiro’s sustainability-driven mission. “Together, we aim to make sustainable mobility accessible and practical for Uganda’s boda sector, empowering riders and the communities they serve.”
Ricky echoed the significance of the partnership: “Our community is the heartbeat of urban transport. By partnering with Spiro, we’re giving boda riders access to cleaner, more affordable alternatives that uplift their livelihoods and contribute to a greener future.”
He also called on the Ministry of ICT to spotlight companies like Spiro, urging broader public awareness: “Spiro has a long-standing relationship with the Ugandan government. This message should reach the final consumer—Spiro is here and making an impact.” he added.
The announcement comes ahead of World Environment Day on June 5, aligning the partnership with global environmental goals.
“Riding an EV bike speaks volumes—it’s about safety, clean energy, and a healthier environment,” noted Victor Getenya, Spiro Africa Manager. “This partnership further reinforces Spiro’s role as a community-driven change agent.”
In a move to make electric mobility more accessible, Spiro also announced a price reduction of its EV motorbike from UGX 5.2 million to UGX 3.8 million, enhancing affordability for everyday riders.
