KAMPALA, Uganda : The maternity wing of Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital has received a donation of medical consumables and equipment worth UGX50 million to enhance service delivery.

Last year, in an effort to strengthen health support within the community, Stanbic Bank Uganda, together with the Entebbe Golf Club, launched a community transformation campaign aimed at giving back to the people.

Dr. John Bosco Nsubuga, the hospital director, said, “We perform over 5,000 operations annually, with about 75% being Caesarean sections. As a regional referral hospital, we often handle complicated cases due to various issues like excessive bleeding and obstructed labour. The donated items will greatly impact the entire community, and we will utilise them effectively to fulfill their intended purpose.”

Arthur Kiwanuka, the Head of Affluent Banking at Stanbic Bank, said the initiative was conceived from the need to create significant change.

“Each time a golfer paid their green fees using our product FlexiPay, UGX10,000 was allocated for this cause. What started as a series of small contributions has now evolved into a significant impact. Today, we are proud to donate essential medical equipment and supplies valued at UGX50 million to the maternity unit of Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital,” Kiwanuka said.

He said, “This donation symbolises the core mission of Stanbic Bank of driving Uganda’s growth. The equipment we are providing today has been carefully selected to save lives. It includes an infant warmer, a heavy-duty suction machine, a seven-section hydraulic operating theatre table, a standard Caesarean instrument set, an LED examination lamp, and 100 Mama Kits for expectant mothers.”

Kiwanuka said the bank is currently implementing a three-year, UGX1 trillion development commitment focused on women, youth, and farmers, the key contributors to economic development, adding that about 85 health facilities have so far been supported across the country in recent months.

“While we have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Entebbe Golf Club through events like Match Play and the Entebbe Open, we take pride in how our partnership has evolved beyond sports. Today, we are not just discussing sports; we are delivering hope and improved healthcare to our mothers and sisters. This UGX50 million contribution demonstrates what we can accomplish together,” Kiwanuka said.

Kiwanuka said that the contribution included UGX25 million from the Entebbe Golf Club green fees, UGX7 million raised during the Independence Marathon Run, and an additional UGX20 million from Stanbic Bank’s Corporate Social Investment fund.

Serwano Walusimbi, the Captain of Entebbe Golf Club, said, “Golf has always been about fitness and fellowship, but today, it represents true camaraderie as people unite for the common good. We are here to ensure that no mother loses her life while bringing new life into this world. Giving is more blessed than receiving, and because some of us may be more privileged than others, it is essential to share what we have with those who are less fortunate. We at Entebbe Golf Club will continue to support those in need.”
