Kyenjojo District – The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) of Kyenjojo Allan Bamuha has launched three Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) established under poverty eradication initiatives being implemented by Village Enterprise Uganda.
Village Enterprise Uganda, a non-state actor, is supporting the government’s Parish Development Model (PDM) strategy by empowering communities with financial and business development opportunities aimed at improving household incomes and livelihoods.
The newly launched SACCOs have undergone extensive Business and Financial Training, equipping members with skills in financial management, savings mobilization, and entrepreneurship.
Beneficiaries are expected to apply these skills in retail trade, agriculture, and craft-based enterprises to enhance economic growth at the community level.
In addition, participants have received training in conservation and climate resilience, enabling communities living near Kibale National Park to adopt environmentally sustainable business practices and climate-smart farming methods.
The programme seeks to promote income generation while safeguarding natural resources.
The initiative also incorporates community mentorship, where local entrepreneurs are paired with experienced business mentors to provide guidance, strengthen enterprise management, and ensure long-term business sustainability and resilience.
Speaking during the launch, district leaders commended the partnership between Village Enterprise Uganda and government programmes, noting that such interventions are critical in accelerating poverty reduction and economic empowerment among rural households.
