Police have recovered a suspected stolen motor vehicle and arrested three suspects following an intelligence-led operation targeting the growing cases of vehicle theft in Wakiso District.
The operation was launched after thieves stole a blue Toyota Sienta, registration number UBJ 997A, belonging to Zuria Kusiima, a resident of Gombe A Village in Wakiso District.
“We tracked the vehicle using its installed tracking devices. The first signal led our officers to a parking yard in Matuga, where they recovered parts of a dismantled tracker. However, a second tracking device, which had not been removed, later led the team to another parking yard in Magere, Kasangati, where the vehicle was successfully recovered,” Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Luke Owoyesigyire said.
Police said the vehicle was found largely intact, although its steering system had been tampered with.
Following the recovery, officers arrested David Mayanja, Bosco Sirisayi and Juma Ssekandi, who are currently being held at Wakiso Police Station as investigations continue into the suspected theft and possible links to a wider vehicle theft network.
Owoyesigyire urged motorists to install reliable vehicle tracking devices, saying they significantly improve the chances of recovering stolen vehicles and enable a faster police response during investigations.
