The president of the Old Budonian Club at Kings College Budo, Farouk Sewankambo, emphasized the crucial role that alumni associations play in supporting their alma maters, particularly in infrastructure development initiatives.

He urged the alumni to actively contribute to their former schools, advocating for their involvement in various projects and programs while upholding a strong sense of integrity in their professional lives.

Sewankambo was speaking during the Mengo SS reunion and expo, during the celebration of 125 years of the institution.

He expressed concern over the diminishing moral values among youth, who often seek quick financial gains at the expense of their long-term futures, warning that such choices could lead to serious repercussions.

Mengo SS is one of the oldest school in the country.

Muzaale Carol, president of the Uganda Martyrs High School Namugongo Old Students Association, acknowledged the commendable efforts at Mengo SS in providing high-quality education to students in Uganda and beyond.

Ruth Kyobutungi, the deputy secretary of the Trinity College Nabbingo Old Girls Association (TRICONA), congratulated Mengo SS on this significant achievement, extending best wishes for continued academic excellence from both the Nabbingo students and the entire TRICONA alumni community.

Herbert Daniel Sentumbwe,  Chairman Mengo SS SACCO and general manager of CBS Pewosa Nsindika Eyeterekera SACCO, highlighted the importance of former students committing to give back to their schools and supporting ongoing development initiatives to ensure the sustainability of their legacies.

The former headteacher of the school, now heading Kings College Budo, Canon John Fred Kazibwe, who served as the preacher of the day during the mass, encouraged the youth to embrace God’s love.

He urged them to prioritize doing the right things and to steer clear of negative influences that could compromise their moral integrity.

He expressed his gratitude to all the stakeholders of his previous school for their contributions, noting that even though he has moved on to a new role at Kings College Budo.

He also recollected the positive experiences and support he received during his tenure.

In an exclusive interview with this website, the school’s deputy head teacher, Dorothy Kiconco Barekye, shared that the institution, founded in 1895, now boasts the largest student body in the country, with over 6,000 day scholars.

She praised the government, the Church of Uganda Anglican, the board of governors, the PTA, and the parents for their unwavering support of the school’s development initiatives, which have kept it vibrant and thriving.

During the event, she also presented the 2024 sports gala awards trophy to Nsubuga House, the overall champions, with Armitage and Kennedy Houses following closely behind in second and third place, respectively.

Sempa House secured the fourth position, while Luboyera came in fifth, and George finished last.
