An intelligence-led police operation across Kampala and neighboring districts has led to the arrest of 55 suspected criminals and the recovery of several motorcycles believed to be linked to criminal activity.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police say the sweeping crackdown is part of a broader effort to curb rising cases of robbery, drug abuse, and street crime in the city.
Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said the coordinated raids targeted areas notorious for narcotics and violent offences.
In Naggalama town, four suspects were apprehended for allegedly selling opium and marijuana, with officers recovering drugs and knives as evidence.
In Katwe Division, police impounded seven motorcycles bearing altered number plates and arrested 25 people in a bid to stem urban crime.
Another suspect, identified as Kasita Matiya, was captured in Nalya after a series of robberies and snatching incidents. According to Onyango, Matiya was found carrying a panga, knives, and opium, and has already been identified by multiple victims. He is being held at Kira Police Division.

Further north in areas including Nsasa, Bulindo, Katuli, Kigambo, and Namugongo, police detained 18 individuals for possession of narcotic substances. Officers recovered opium and marijuana during the swoop.
Onyango emphasized that the ongoing operations are designed to restore public safety and dismantle criminal networks that have been fueling robberies, burglaries, and phone snatching in the metropolitan area.
“These operations are aimed at restoring safety and reducing street crime within Kampala and its surrounding areas,” he said.
