President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, has taken his campaign trail to the Bugisu Sub-Region, with his first rally held in Sironko District.

Addressing residents of Sironko yesterday, President Museveni reiterated his government’s commitment to boosting the coffee sector as a key driver of wealth creation in the region.

He emphasized that the NRM government remains focused on empowering citizens through socio-economic initiatives and agricultural development programs, particularly those centered on coffee production.

The President also refuted claims made by opposition politicians, notably the FDC’s Nandala Mafabi, regarding the NRM’s coffee programs. Museveni reminded the audience of his government’s intervention in saving the Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU) from collapse, settling debts that had threatened its existence. He noted that his actions preserved assets such as the land currently hosting the Mbale Industrial Park.

President Museveni urged the people of Sironko to embrace viable economic ventures as the government plans to increase allocations under the Parish Development Model (PDM). He cautioned residents against being misled by opposition figures on issues of employment and wealth creation, encouraging them instead to follow the NRM’s message of self-reliance through the “four-acre model.”

The President cited examples of individuals, such as the Minister of State for Transport, Fred Byamukama, who have successfully implemented NRM’s wealth creation strategies. He reiterated that meaningful economic transformation can begin at the household level and does not depend solely on large-scale infrastructure developments.

On social services, President Museveni pledged to upgrade several health centers in Sironko District and construct new ones to improve healthcare delivery. He also committed to expanding access to government-funded education, noting that the district currently has 111 primary schools and 12 secondary schools.

The President promised to establish more schools so that each parish and sub-county has adequate education facilities, reinforcing the NRM’s policy of free education for all.

Additionally, the President outlined plans to enhance water and electricity access across Sironko District. He confirmed that the government will increase clean water coverage beyond the current 89 percent and promote irrigation projects to support agricultural productivity.

Museveni also highlighted ongoing and planned electricity distribution efforts aimed at ensuring full power access for the region.

President Museveni concluded by urging the electorate in Sironko to continue supporting the NRM’s vision for sustainable development, unity, and prosperity for all Ugandans.
