The number of fatalities from a fuel tanker explosion in northern Nigeria has climbed to at least 153, according to reports.

The incident occurred on October 15, 2024, in Majiya village, Jigawa state.

The explosion occurred after a fuel tanker crashed, prompting locals to gather and collect the spilled fuel.

During the collection of the spilled fuel, an explosion took place, resulting in the swift propagation of flames, injurijg hundreds.

It is reported that the truck driver lost control, causing the tanker to overturn and spill fuel into a nearby drainage channel.

A number of individuals lost their lives, and their bodies were interred in a mass grave.

Over 100 people suffered extensive burns and were urgently transported for medical care in critical condition.

As a result of these severe injuries, the death toll has now risen to 153, as reported by the police.

Lawan Adam, the Police spokesman, reported that the tanker was making its way from the ancient city of Kano to Yobe State in the north when the driver lost control near Majiya, located about 530 kilometers (330 miles) north of Abuja, leading to the vehicle overturning and fuel being spilled.
