The year 2025 has been a rollercoaster year for Ugandan music full of challenges, clashes, and creative explosions. While some moments felt like obstacles, others fueled the industry’s growth. According to Bebe Cool, the year outshined 2024 in sheer creativity, with young artists daring to break norms and pushing audiences to accept nearly anything as music. But amidst the chaos, a few standout talents clearly defined the sound of the year.

Album of the Year: Bebe Cool – Break The Chains

Leading the charge is none other than Bebe Cool himself. His album Break The Chains is a masterclass in reinvention, blending Afrobeats, Afro-tech, and global sounds. While skeptics in Uganda questioned the new style, the world applauded.

With hits like Hidden Agendas, Cheque (ft. Joshua Baraka), Home, Motivation, Hips Don’t Lie, and Rectangle Love, Bebe Cool reintroduced album culture to Uganda, proving that true professionalism demands a full project, not just singles.

“An artist without a professional album will never fully be considered professional,” he warns, urging local musicians to embrace richer, long-form content for global relevance.

Breakout Global Act: Joshua Baraka – Wrong Places

Joshua Baraka

The crown for the best young talent goes to Joshua Baraka, whose single Wrong Places from the 12-track album Juvie made waves internationally. Bebe Cool applauds his boldness in standing out in a crowded market and notes his global performances as proof of his growing reach.

“Heavy investment, focus, and courage have set him apart,” Bebe Cool says, affectionately dubbing him “Baby Elephant.”

Best Local Male Artist: Elijah Kitaka – Ekyange, Daily Bundle, Go Remix ft Karole Kasita

Elija Kitaka

For the first time ever, Bebe Cool names Elijah Kitaka as the top local male artist. Known for his humility, patience, creativity, fashion sense, and unique voice, Kitaka’s 2025 projects mark him as a global star in the making.

“Without a doubt, this guy will go global, it’s only a matter of time,” Bebe Cool predicts, hinting at a future collaboration.

Other Notable Standouts

  • Dax Vybz – At My Door, Good Idea ft Elijah Kitaka: Carved his own path without leaning on his famous brother.

  • Kapeke – Kaba: Cheeky hooks, killer style, and audience-winning energy make him a fan favorite.

  • Lydia Jazmine – The One & Only Album: 16-track masterpiece that elevates her beyond singles-focused artists.

  • FYNO – Che Che: After years of writing hits for others, FYNO finally steps into the spotlight with his own hit.

  • Vinka – Lala: Vocally calm, sweet, and beautifully executed.

  • Ray G – Ow’ishe: Maintains momentum despite 2024’s bigger success.

  • Uncle Chumi – Gwokute Gobba: Turns perceived flaws into creative strengths.

  • Sheebah Karungi: Makes a strong comeback after maternity leave.

  • Tracy Melon: Buzzing name destined for bigger things despite no breakout single yet.

Best Collaborations of 2025

Top Pick: See You Tonight – Cindy Sanyu & Omega 256

Omega256 and Cindy Sanyu
  • Cindy Sanyu’s powerhouse vocals meet Omega 256’s fresh Western Ugandan flair. A perfect fusion.

Other notable collabs:

  • Alien Skin – Kapati & Naxx

  • Wanula – Ava Peace & Temperature

  • Ekisododo – Lil Pazo & Latinum

  • Misolo Boka – Mad King ft Nandor Love
