Police in Katwe have arrested three suspects following an intelligence-led operation in Salaama, Makindye Division, where authorities say a cache of suspected government property and assorted dangerous items were recovered.
In a statement issued by Rachael Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, the operation was launched in the early hours of June 11, 2026, at around 2:00am after officers on patrol received reports that two men suspected of attacking residents with machetes were hiding at a residence in Zikusooka Zone, Salaama, within Makindye Division, Kampala District.
Acting on the tip-off, a team from Katwe Police Station swiftly moved in and conducted a raid on the identified premises.
Three individuals were arrested at the scene, including two men and one woman. The suspects have been identified as George Muwanga Makanga, Mashood Ahumuza, and Ishimwe Kethier.
During a thorough search of the house, officers reportedly recovered a backpack containing several suspicious items, including what appeared to be a toy gun, a metallic torch, a screwdriver, a sensor device, a knife, and test tubes.
Poli ce say they also recovered 10 rounds of live ammunition, further raising concerns about the nature of the suspects’ activities and possible security threats linked to the premises.
Authorities have confirmed that the suspects are currently being held in custody as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the possession of the items and their alleged involvement in violent attacks.
Kawala said inquiries are ongoing as detectives work to piece together the suspects’ intentions and any wider criminal links.
