A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Kampala after a viral social media video allegedly linked him to criminal activities along the city’s busy Jinja Road corridor, prompting police to launch a wider investigation into suspected criminal networks operating in the area.
Solomon Wafula, a resident of Banda Zone III in Nakawa Division, was arrested by officers from Banda Police Post at around midday on Thursday June 25, 2026) after a video circulating on X and other social media platforms drew the attention of law enforcement.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the footage allegedly showed Solomon making references to criminal activities taking place along Jinja Road and within Banda, raising concerns about possible links to offences committed in the area.
“We arrested the suspect after a viral video surfaced in which he appeared to make references to criminal activities along Jinja Road and within Banda. Our investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances under which the video was made and to determine whether the suspect or any of the individuals mentioned were involved in criminal acts,” Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Luke Owoyesigyire said.
Police said detectives are working to identify other individuals mentioned in the video and establish whether they have any connection to crimes committed along Jinja Road and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Owoyesigyire warned that sharing or creating content that appears to glorify or promote criminal behaviour could undermine ongoing efforts to improve public safety.
“We also caution members of the public against producing, sharing or circulating content that glorifies, promotes or appears to endorse criminal activity. Such conduct is not tolerated and may undermine ongoing efforts to combat crime and maintain public order,” he said.
He noted that the investigation remains ongoing, stressing that saying that anyone found to have participated in criminal activity will face legal action.
