National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Lugoloobi Shamim Lule has pledged to harness digital marketing and technology to boost business opportunities for traders in Wandegeya Katale Zone if elected LC1 chairperson in the forthcoming Local Council elections.
Speaking in an interview on Friday, July 24, 2026, Lule said her leadership would prioritize equipping local businesses with modern marketing tools to expand their customer base and improve product sales within the bustling Wandegeya market community.
“Our traders must embrace digital platforms to compete in today’s economy. Working with stakeholders, we can increase the visibility of their products and create more economic opportunities for residents,” she said.
Lule, who also serves as the Buganda Kingdom Information Secretary for Wandegeya Parish and chairs the NUP Kunga Buganda Taskforce in the area, said her campaign is centred on economic empowerment, accountability and inclusive local leadership.
She criticised the outgoing LC1 chairperson, Rehema Bakanansa, who has led the zone for about four decades, arguing that the area requires fresh leadership capable of attracting partnerships and innovative development programmes.
The NUP flag bearer further alleged that residents of Wandegeya Katale Zone have been excluded from the Presidential Initiative on Skilling the Girl/Boy Child, despite the programme operating within the market complex.

She claimed that beneficiaries were instead drawn from neighbouring communities, including Kifumbira, Kikumikikumi, Katanga and Kikoni.
If elected, Lule said she would ensure that local residents become priority beneficiaries of government and community economic empowerment programmes, particularly those targeting youth employment and vocational skills development.
She also pledged to institutionalise regular community meetings to enable residents to identify development priorities, strengthen accountability and jointly address challenges affecting the zone.
Local Council elections across Uganda have attracted heightened political interest, with parties seeking to consolidate grassroots support ahead of the country’s broader electoral cycle.
