The newly elected LC1 Chairperson of Sultan Village, Nakasero IV Parish in Kampala Central Division, Ssekabuuza Godwin, has pledged to work closely with stakeholders to improve sanitation, security and service delivery in the village.
Ssekabuuza made the remarks on Saturday, August 1, 2026, during his victory celebration held in Kiyembe, where he thanked residents for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the village.
The former LC1 Vice Chairperson defeated the outgoing chairperson, Martin Byekwaso Ssonko, who is reported to have served the village for 46 years.
Ssekabuuza said one of his immediate priorities will be to work with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) to address the persistent sewage overflow in the Kiyembe area, saying the situation has become a health hazard and a major inconvenience to traders, customers and pedestrians.
He also expressed concern over what he described as the continued harassment of traders operating in arcades, including Platinum Verandas, by KCCA law enforcement officers. He argued that instead of arresting traders who pay rent, the authority should create a clear and affordable licensing system that enables them to operate legally.
The new chairperson pledged to strengthen collaboration with KCCA, security agencies, the Resident City Commissioner’s office and the Kampala Central Town Clerk to promote peace, improve service delivery and support economic development in the area.
Speaking at the event, Nabirye Justin, the Nakasero IV Parish Parish Development Model (PDM) Coordinator, pledged to ensure that all eligible residents benefit from the government programme once they are properly identified by local leaders.
Nakasero IV Parish Female Councillor Akankwasa Gift and the area’s Male Councillor, Kiyaga Suleiman, who was the chief guest, pledged to lobby both Kampala Central Division and KCCA for more economic empowerment programmes targeting the area’s largely trading community.
Kiyaga said newly elected LC1 chairpersons and executive committee members from the 12 villages in the parish will soon hold a strategic planning meeting to discuss key issues affecting residents, including security, education, sanitation, healthcare and access to government economic empowerment programmes.
He urged the new leaders to maintain constructive engagement with KCCA law enforcement officers and other government institutions, emphasizing dialogue and consultation rather than confrontation when resolving community challenges.
During the function, Ssekabuuza unveiled his executive committee, comprising Vice Chairperson Mutebi Nsubuga Joseph, General Secretary Muwonge Yasin, Secretary for Finance Nakawooya Grace, Secretary for Defence Male Suleiman and other committee members. The team pledged to work together, strengthen community leadership and promote dialogue in resolving conflicts.
