FORT PORTAL, UGANDA — The Tooro Kingdom has confirmed that His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV is in a critical condition, prompting an appeal for prayers and restraint from the public.

In an official communication issued to the people of Tooro and the general public, the Kingdom said the monarch is currently receiving attention amid a “difficult and deeply concerning” situation.

The Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomire Akiiki, urged the people of Tooro, and all well-wishers in Uganda and around the world to keep the King in their thoughts and prayers.

“At this difficult and deeply concerning time, we humbly ask the people of Tooro, our friends and well-wishers in Uganda and across the world to keep His Majesty in their thoughts and prayers,” the statement said.

The Kingdom also appealed to the public to avoid speculation, rumours and the circulation of unverified information about the monarch’s health.

“We understand the concern and anxiety that news of this nature will naturally cause, but we ask for calm, restraint and respect for His Majesty and the Royal Family,” Akiiki noted.

The Kingdom said official channels would provide further updates on the King’s condition when appropriate.

The announcement follows  reports on media and social media platforms alleging the King had passed on.

King Oyo, is one of Uganda’s most prominent traditional leaders.

He ascended the throne in 1995 as a child following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.

With the latest communication, the Kingdom has formally confirmed the seriousness of the monarch’s condition but has not disclosed the nature of his illness or provided further medical details.

The development is expected to draw attention from across Uganda and the wider global community, particularly among members of the Tooro community and the King’s supporters abroad.

For now, the Tooro Kingdom is calling for unity, calm and prayers for the recovery of His Majesty King Oyo.
