KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE)- The Bank of Uganda (BoU), the country’s central bank, on Wednesday raised its Central Bank Rate (CBR) from 9.75 percent to 12 percent to contain rising inflation risks driven by higher fuel prices and exchange rate pressures
In a statement posted on its official X account, formerly Twitter, the bank said the decision followed a special Monetary Policy Committee meeting held on Oct. 14, 2026.
“The decision aims to contain rising inflation risks driven by higher fuel prices and exchange rate pressures, while safeguarding price stability,” the bank said.
The central bank also raised the Cash Reserve Requirement (CRR) from 11 percent to 13.5 percent, effective Sept. 24, 2026.
The bank said the increase was intended “to manage excess liquidity in the banking system and strengthen monetary policy effectiveness.”
The measures are aimed at addressing inflation risks while maintaining price stability, according to the statement.
