KIREKA, Wakiso District (UGNEWSLINE) — A fire that broke out at a furniture workshop in Kireka Zone A, Namugongo Division, on Thursday night spread to neighbouring homes, raising concerns over the extent of property damage, although no injuries or deaths had been reported by the time of the police update.
The fire started at approximately 9pm on October 15, 2026, in Kireka Zone A, Kira Municipality, before spreading from the workshop to nearby residential properties.
Police said the full extent of the destruction had not yet been established as authorities continued to assess the damage and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said Fire and Rescue Services responded to the emergency and successfully extinguished the blaze.
“No injuries or fatalities had been registered by the time of the report,” Kawala said.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigations underway to establish what triggered the outbreak.
The incident has once again highlighted the risk fires pose to businesses and residential properties, particularly where workshops and homes are located close to one another.
Police have urged members of the public to take fire prevention seriously, stressing the importance of ensuring electrical installations are properly maintained and avoiding leaving charcoal stoves or candles unattended.
Residents have also been advised to keep flammable materials away from heat sources and open flames, and to report fire outbreaks to the nearest police station or emergency responders without delay.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the estimated value of the property suspected to have been destroyed, as efforts to establish the full impact of the fire continue.
