The inaugural of first East African Conference on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) has kicked off today December 11, 2024 at Nican Resort, in Lweza, Wakiso district.

The two day high-level ends on December 12, 2024.

The event has attracted stakeholders, experts, and practitioners from Uganda, Tanzania, and other regions to share insights, exchange experiences, and develop a strategic plan for implementing effective RPL systems throughout Uganda and the East African area.

Hon. Peace Regis Mutuzo, the Minister of Culture Affairs, in her opening remarks advocated for the expedited adoption of Recognition of Prior Learning in the nation. She emphasized the need to expand the Adult Learning Curriculum to encompass issues related to Gender and Climate Change, suggesting that these topics should be integrated from the earliest stages of education.

Drawing from her PhD research, she highlighted that women in the Northern region, particularly in West Nile and parts of Eastern Uganda, face challenges regarding land ownership and access to perennial crops, which could be alleviated through adult education and empowerment initiatives.

This conference is a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Department of Community Development in partnership with the German agency DVV.
