These incidents took place between November 2024 and January 2025 across the districts of Mityana, Kassanda, and certain areas of Kampala.

The arrested individuals include: Sseguya Ivan, also known as Bashir, 19 years old; Agaba Godfrey, known as Boge, 19 years old; Kabugo Shafik, referred to as Fik, 19 years old; Kiiza Simon, also called Andrew, 23 years old; Ndyanabo Mathias, 28 years old; and Turyahebwa Nicholas, 19 years old.

Others are Nsabimana Peter, known as Kajambiya, 22 years old; Nakitulimana Sam, 20 years old; Mubibi, 22 years old; and Kayemba Umaru, 25 years old.

According to Racheal Kawala, the spokesperson for the policing area, the suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement in multiple robberies across Mityana, Kassanda, and parts of the Kampala metropolitan area.

On December 27, 2024, officers from Sekanyonyi Police Station apprehended Sseguya Ivan in connection with an aggravated robbery at the SACCO offices in Kanyogoga Village, Sekanyonyi. During questioning, he disclosed the names of his accomplices, which facilitated their arrests in Mityana Municipality, Nansana Municipality, and Kassanda District.

Notably, one incident in Mityana District occurred on December 27, 2024, where Vincent Ssebagereka was attacked in Kikuuta Village, resulting in the defilement of his 15-year-old daughter.

On the same day, Noelina Namilimu from Lukingiride Village in Kalangalo Sub-County was a victim of theft, losing shs500,000. Additionally, Samuel Kasozi from Nakilagala Village, also in Kalangalo Sub-County, was robbed of shs70,000, while the very assailants reportedly broke into the SACCO offices located in Kanyogoga Village, Sekanyonyi Town Council, that very day. Kawala reported that on January 3, 2025, Ssali Matayo and his wife, Tumwedaze Faith, were assaulted in Kalangalo Village, resulting in the theft of mobile phones and an undisclosed sum of money, while their maid was also subjected to rape.

“Tragically, Tumwedaze passed away on January 4, 2025 following the attack,” she added.

On the same day, an individual named Kizito from Kalangalo Village was a victim of mobile phone theft, while Munyakindi Dan from Kalangalo LC1 Village lost SACCO funds totaling shs4,500,000.

Authorities have reported that the suspects also admitted to committing housebreakings, burglaries, and thefts in locations including Namukozi and Wabigalo within Mityana District.

Further reports reveal that on December 20, 2024, Stella Tumwebaze from Bukuya Trading Center was robbed of shs3,000,000, along with laptops and mobile phones.

On December 30, 2024, Yusuf Sserunjogi Salongo experienced a theft involving mobile phones, a national ID, and an undisclosed sum of money, while on November 3, 2024, Lugeye Matayo had his mobile phone stolen.

Kawala reported that on November 18, 2024, Kahutu Yakobo was robbed of shs10,000,000 and mobile phones, while on December 25, 2024, Mfitumukiza Erick also fell victim to theft, losing shs6,500,000 and mobile phones.

On December 17, 2024, police reports reveal that Muwonge Julius was a victim of theft, losing a motorcycle (Registration No. UEL 515A Bajaj Boxer), televisions, mobile phones, UGX 1,000,000, and two suitcases.

Kawala reported that searches carried out at the suspects’ locations resulted in the recovery of various items, including mobile phones recognized by the victims.

Additionally, the suspects were also discovered to be in possession of burglary tools.

“We commend our task teams and thank community members who provided critical information that helped dismantle this criminal gang. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects involved,” she added.
