KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) –Absa Bank Uganda has launched a new wealth proposition aimed at helping customers move beyond traditional banking into investment, wealth management and financial advisory services as Uganda’s investment market continues to expand.
The new Absa Wealth proposition brings together everyday banking, local and global investment opportunities, wealth advisory and specialised financing under one broader relationship.
David Wandera, Managing Director of Absa Bank Uganda, said the initiative responds to the growing need for customers to manage, grow and preserve their wealth through a more integrated financial relationship.
“Absa Wealth is about extending the banking relationship beyond transactions, savings and borrowing to include investing, wealth management and advisory. We want to support our customers at different stages of their financial journey and provide solutions that respond to their changing needs,” Wandera said.
The launch comes at a time when Uganda’s investment and savings market is recording significant growth. Assets under management in Collective Investment Schemes (CIS) reached UGX7.06 trillion in 2026, up from UGX731 billion in June 2021, while more than 220,000 Ugandans now hold funded CIS accounts.
The retirement benefits sector has also expanded, with assets under management reaching UGX35.6 trillion as of March 2026, according to the Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority.
Wandera said the growth presents an opportunity for banks to provide customers with investment solutions that go beyond simply keeping money in accounts.
“As the pool of savings and investments grows, customers are increasingly looking for ways to diversify, invest and preserve their wealth. Absa Wealth brings banking, investment and advisory together so that customers can look at their financial needs more holistically,” he said.
Under the new proposition, customers can access Absa Invest Plus, a professionally managed investment solution offered through Absa and managed by Sanlam. The product accepts investments starting from UGX10,000 or its USD equivalent, with investment options in Uganda shillings and US dollars.
The solution focuses on government securities and other interest-bearing investments, with an emphasis on capital preservation, liquidity and professional fund management. Withdrawal requests are generally processed within one to two business days.
Customers can also invest in Uganda Government Treasury Bills and Treasury Bonds through Absa, with a minimum investment of UGX100,000. Treasury Bills are available for 91, 182 and 365 days, while Treasury Bonds range from two to 15 years.
For customers with more complex financial needs, Absa Wealth provides access to wealth advisory and relationship banking, multi-currency transactions and investments, local and international investments, listed equities, bonds, exchange-traded funds, mutual funds and structured investment solutions.
The proposition also includes specialised and investment-backed lending, global custody services and travel and lifestyle solutions for eligible wealth customers.
Wandera said customers can start with relatively accessible investment products and gradually build more diversified portfolios as their financial position and investment needs develop.
“A customer may begin with a professionally managed investment or government security and, as their financial position evolves, move towards a more diversified portfolio. Our role is to provide the advice, access and solutions needed at each stage,” Wandera said.
The wealth proposition will also enable eligible customers to access broader investment opportunities across different asset classes, currencies and international markets while maintaining their relationship with Absa Bank Uganda.
Wandera said the bank’s approach is to combine its local relationship with the wider capabilities of the Absa Group.
“We are combining a strong local relationship with broader capabilities across the Absa Group. This gives our customers an opportunity to access local and global investment solutions while continuing to bank with a partner they know,” he said.
