SAD NEWS: A cloud of grief has fallen over Parliament of Uganda, the nation of Uganda, and the National Unity Platform (NUP) following the untimely death of Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Hellen Nakimuli.
The heartbreaking news was first shared by NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, who informed the country and the wider world through his X (formerly Twitter) platform.
“Terrible, shocking news! Hon. Hellen Nakimuli, Woman MP, Kalangala District, just passed on after an unsuccessful surgery! May God strengthen all of us in this very tough time.”
According to Kyagulanyi, Nakimuli died following complications from a surgery that did not succeed. Her passing has sent shockwaves through political circles and the communities she served.
Hon. Nakimuli, who represented Kalangala District, was a rising figure in Uganda’s political landscape. Born on July 2, 1985, in Lukuba Village, Kyamuswa Sub-county, she was the daughter of Greek Orthodox priest Christopher Walusimbi and Maria Nalwanga Walusimbi, a former Kalangala District councillor.
She began her education at Bukasa Primary School before continuing at Hormisdallen Primary School in Bweyogerere, Wakiso District. She later attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Secondary School in Gayaza for her O-Level studies, and St. Augustine Secondary School in Wakiso for A-Level, where she served as head girl—an early sign of her leadership abilities.
Nakimuli went on to join Makerere University, where her passion for leadership and public service deepened, eventually guiding her into national politics.
Her death leaves a significant void in Parliament, her party, and the people of Kalangala District, who looked to her as a voice and advocate.
