KOLE District: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, has announced that Cabinet has approved a cattle restocking initiative for the Lango, Teso and Acholi sub-regions, with payments set to commence immediately after the forthcoming general elections.
President Museveni confirmed that the restocking program will be implemented through monetary compensation to beneficiary households. He explained that earlier attempts to restock cattle were frustrated by prolonged court cases and the involvement of lawyers who misled beneficiaries for personal gain, ultimately undermining the initiative.
The President revealed that government had already injected Shs159 billion into the cattle compensation program before anomalies were detected, prompting him to order a halt to the process. Following Cabinet’s approval, he assured the public that funds for the new cash-based restocking approach are already available.
“The money for cattle restocking is already on the bank accounts. After the general election, we shall return to discuss how the money will be distributed, whom to start with, and why,” President Museveni said.
He emphasized that new lists of cattle restocking beneficiaries are to be generated, comprising all households in the Lango, Acholi, and Teso sub-regions, and that over 80 billion shillings have already been set aside to kick-start the process, as resolved by Cabinet.
He made the remarks while addressing a presidential campaign rally at Aculbanya Primary School playgrounds in Kore District, Lango Sub-region.
President Museveni further attributed Uganda’s past instability to divisive politics based on religion and tribalism, noting that the NRM believes in unity among all Ugandans.
While acknowledging that the country is wealthier than before, he admitted that some households still live in poverty.
He encouraged residents of Kore District to use wetlands productively while preserving water sources for irrigation. President Museveni emphasized that fishing is the most suitable economic activity for wetlands and pledged government support, including assistance in digging fish ponds.
“We do not want homesteads without wealth. Wealth creation is very crucial,” he stressed.
President Museveni also urged voters in Kole District to continue entrusting the NRM government, citing its strategic approach to national development and socio-economic transformation. He cautioned the electorate against supporting opposition leaders he described as promoting sectarianism and disunity.
He further noted that the NRM government restored national unity and rebuilt key institutions, including security agencies, the civil service, and development frameworks.
The President concluded by rallying voters in Kole District to support all NRM flag bearers in the upcoming general elections to consolidate and expand the gains achieved so far.
