The Registered Trustees of the Church of Uganda have been restored as the lawful owners of a prime piece of land along Port Bell Road following a successful intervention by the Inspectorate of Government (IG).
In a statement issued by the IG, the matter arose after a complaint alleging fraudulent dealings involving land on Plot 107 Old Port Bell Road. The complaint triggered an investigation into irregular transactions affecting the property.
However, investigators found that officials in the Land Registration Department had improperly issued a special certificate of title and transferred ownership of the land to businessman Meddie Mayega Nyago.
This was done despite the original land title remaining under the custody of the Church’s registered trustees.
Following the findings, the Inspector General of Government directed the Commissioner of Land Registration to cancel the disputed certificate of title, specifically FVR Folio 3 for Plot 107 Port Bell Road, which had been issued on October 28, 2022 under instrument number KCCA–00098130.
A search report dated March 9, 2026, later confirmed that the Registered Trustees of the Church of Uganda had been reinstated on the National Land Information System (NLIS) as the rightful owners of the property.
The IG described the outcome as a demonstration of its continued commitment to upholding the rule of law, promoting transparency, and ensuring accountability within public institutions in order to improve service delivery.
