Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, welcomed the new Indian Military Advisory and Training Team (IMATT) at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Headquarters in Entebbe, reaffirming the longstanding defense ties between Uganda and India.

The incoming delegation was led by Brig. N.V. Nanjundeshwara, the newly appointed Head of IMATT, accompanied by Colonel Surendra Tanwar and Group Captain Pranav Raj.
Senior UPDF officials also attended the meeting, including Lt. Gen. Jack Bakasumba, Chief of Joint Staff, and Brig. Gen. Wycliffe Keita from the Joint Staff Training and Doctrine Command.
Kainerugaba praised the enduring military cooperation between the two nations, highlighting the mutual benefits derived from decades of shared training, strategic dialogue, and capacity-building.
“Uganda and India have enjoyed a strong and productive military relationship. We value the knowledge exchange and look forward to continuing this with your team,” he said.

He assured the new team of UPDF’s full cooperation and thanked them for continuing the tradition of defense collaboration, noting that the two-year IMATT rotation cycle underscores the strategic nature of the partnership.

The Indian Military Advisory and Training Team has operated in Uganda for several years, supporting military education, operational training, and strategic planning within the UPDF framework.
