KAMPALA- Pride Bank officially launched, the journey has seen the bank transforming from a Tier 3 microfinance institution into a fully-fledged Tier 2 credit institution.

The official launch was presided over by Minister for finance and economic development Honorable Matia Kasaija who lauded the Bank for reaching such a great milestone, noting that the transformation aligns with the government’s vision for economic growth and deeper financial inclusion.

The minister pledged continued support from the ministry. “I have no doubt that the future of this institution is exceptionally bright. Please, keep up the good work. We will stand by you and defend you.”

“This journey requires more than structural change. It requires cultural and behavioral evolution, from both the public and private sectors. Whether it’s through our traditional business models, fintech innovation, or community-focused microfinance programs, we are moving in the same direction — toward inclusive growth, equity, and stability. Let me be clear: financial institutions must not only serve markets, but also reflect the values of the people they serve. This means putting the customer at the heart of everything, from banking halls to digital platforms and ensuring access, fairness, and accountability. We must also acknowledge the role of government. Our responsibility is to provide a stable regulatory framework, invest in the necessary infrastructure, and create the conditions for sustained financial growth. Public trust, transparency, and innovation are the pillars of our mission. We are here today not just to look back, but to look forward. We will continue to support initiatives that promote financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and economic resilience. These are not just policies. they are promises.” said Hon. Matia Kasaija.

Speaking at launch, the Bank’s Managing Director, Veronica Namagembe said “Today marks a significant milestone as Pride evolves from a microfinance institution into a full-fledged bank. While our name and capacity may change, our purpose remains steadfast to transform lives responsibly,” Namagembe said.

She emphasized that the institution’s transformation is not just structural but is anchored in deep values and a commitment to impact.

Ms Veronica Namagembe the bank’s MD said “After 30 years of transforming lives through access to finance, we proudly unveil the next chapter: Pride Bank. A legacy born from Pride Africa, matured through Pride Microfinance, and now standing as a full-fledged bank.”

“This moment is a tribute to the countless lives touched, the dreams nurtured, and the communities empowered. As we look ahead, we do so with a renewed sense of purpose, ready to shape a future defined by innovation, integrity, and inclusive prosperity,” she added.

“Over 30 years ago, Pride was born out of a vision to empower communities and uplift lives through inclusive financial access. What began as a modest initiative has evolved into one of Uganda’s leading institutions,” explained.
