NAMUGONGO: The Vice President and Woman MP for Katakwi district Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo has asked women from different christian faiths to extend a hand of solidarity to fellow women and mentor the younger generation to work towards a world where every woman’s potential is nurtured and celebrated.
Alupo told the women who gathered at Namugongo Catholic Martyrs Shrine to celebrate the Worlds Women’s Day of Prayer that together, they stand as sisters in Christ, lifting one another up and interceding for a world where every woman is valued and empowered.
“As you reflect on today’s theme, I encourage each of us to embrace our identity in Christ, knowing that we are truly wonderfully made,” the vice president said. The day was celebrated under the theme, ‘I made you wonderfully‘.
She reminded the women that prayer is a powerful tool that binds us in faith, transcending our differences and drawing us closer to the divine purpose for which we were created.
She called upon women to unite their hearts and voices in seeking God’s guidance, strength, and blessings.
The retired Major informed women that in the midst of life’s demands, balancing work, house chores, motherhood, marriage, and service in the Church, women have continuously demonstrated resilience and unwavering dedication
Alupo told the smartly dressed women that it is essential to equip ourselves with skills that allow them to navigate these roles effectively.
Time Management: Prioritizing tasks, setting realistic goals, and ensuring time for rest and prayer can help women manage responsibilities without burnout.
Self-Care and Mental Wellness: Taking care of oneself spiritually, emotionally, and physically is vital.
A healthy woman is better positioned to care for others.
Seeking Support: Engaging in supportive communities, such as women’s fellowships and mentorship programs, fosters encouragement and shared wisdom.
Financial Empowerment: Learning financial management skills, investing in personal growth, and exploring income-generating opportunities can enhance economic stability.
Faith and Prayer: Anchoring every aspect of life in prayer ensures that women receive divine guidance and strength in their daily journeys.
She asked the Almighty Lord to strengthen the women as they walk in faith, to lead with love, and to serve with humility.
She also delivered President Museveni and Mrs. Janet Museveni’s heartfelt appreciation and blessings to all the women recognizing their invaluable contributions to the nation, the Church, and our communities.
Making reference to (Psalms 139:14), Alupo said this occasion (world women’s day of prayer) is a profound reminder of the beauty, strength, and dignity that God has bestowed upon every woman.
“It is a day to honour the remarkable contributions of women in our families, our communities, and our Church,” she said.
Quoting Psalm 139:14, the Psalmist marvels at the wonder of God’s creation, declaring, “I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” The vice president said this scripture encapsulates the divine value and purpose of every woman.
“You are created in God’s image, endowed with unique gifts, resilience, and grace to nurture families, build communities, and lead with wisdom and compassion,” she said.
She reminded the women that the government, under the leadership of His Excellency the President, has continuously championed policies and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women.
She said programs in education, economic empowerment, health, and leadership development have provided women with opportunities to excel in various fields.
“Women now hold key positions in governance, business, and the Church, playing a crucial role in national development,” she said adding that the recognition of women’s rights and contributions continues to be a priority in building a more inclusive and just society.
Alupo said that despite these achievements, the government recognizes that many women still face challenges such as inequality, violence, and limited access to opportunities.
” It is our collective duty as a faith community to uplift and empower every woman, ensuring that she flourishes in her God-given potential,” the vice president said.
She urged the women to continue advocating for dignity, justice, and equal participation in all spheres of life.
She recognised the fact that the Catholic Church has always upheld the value of women and the lives of great women in their faith—such as the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Monica, and St. Teresa of Calcutta reminding them of the impact of faith-filled women in shaping our world.
“We celebrate the mothers, daughters, sisters, and women leaders who, through their selflessness, love, and faith, continue to inspire generations,” Alupo said.
The ecumenical service was led by religious leaders from the Catholic, Anglican, and the Orthodox Church.
