KAMPALA, Uganda : Police in Kampala have arrested several suspects during a two-day operation targeting theft, robbery, and other street crimes across the city.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the operations conducted on May 19 and 20 led to multiple arrests in Makindye, Kabalagala, and Old Kampala divisions.
In Kisugu, Makindye Division, police arrested a suspect identified as Farouk Menya over the theft of number plates from a Toyota Noah, registration number UBR 185M.
Officers later recovered the stolen plates from a rubbish heap where they had allegedly been hidden.
In a separate operation under Kabalagala Police Division, 12 male suspects were arrested in the Nsambya, Lukuli, Kansanga, and Gogonya areas.
Police said the locations are known for attacks on members of the public, including robberies involving mobile phones, bags, and cash.
Meanwhile, another operation in Kisenyi and Nabunya under Old Kampala Police Division resulted in the arrest of 57 suspects linked to phone snatching, robbery, and narcotics-related crimes.
Owoyesigyire said 32 of the suspects were arraigned before court, while others were released after screening or remain in custody pending further investigations.
