Residents of Kamira Ward in Luweero District are on edge following two separate but disturbing incidents involving alleged acts of malicious damage and livestock attacks, both believed to stem from escalating local disputes under active police investigation.
Police in Luweero are probing a case in which approximately half an acre of eucalyptus trees in Namuningi Village was allegedly cut down on June 21, 2026.
Preliminary findings indicate that the destruction targeted property belonging to one Isa Katende and is suspected to be linked to a long-running land conflict involving Erasmus Kigaba, who is alleged to have led a group of individuals during the incident.
Law enforcement officers visited and documented the scene shortly after receiving reports, recording witness statements as part of ongoing inquiries, although no arrests have yet been made as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the damage.
Sam Twineamaziima, the police spokesman for Savannah Region, said the police are treating the matter with urgency, noting that “we are actively pursuing all individuals connected to the malicious damage of property in Kamira Ward and ensuring that all those responsible are brought before the courts of law as investigations progress.”
In a related development that has further heightened tension in the area, police are also investigating a separate incident of alleged animal cruelty reported on June 30, 2026 in the same ward.
The complaint involves claims that 30 cows and 10 goats belonging to a local farm in Kaswa Village were injured in what authorities believe may also be connected to local hostilities.
According to police, the report was made through Betty Nabukenya, who relayed allegations involving instructions linked to Erasmus Kigaba, while named suspects including residents of Namuningi Village are said to have fled the scene as officers arrived.
Authorities have since documented the scene, recorded statements from the cattle keeper, and intensified efforts to trace the suspects as investigations continue into both incidents believed to be part of broader underlying community disputes.
