BREAKING NEWS: Manchester United have parted ways with head coach Ruben Amorim following mounting tensions behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese coach leaves the club after 14 months in charge, with his final match a 1–1 draw away at Leeds on Sunday — a result that leaves United sixth in the Premier League table.
Amorim’s dismissal follows a breakdown in relations with the club’s hierarchy, including director of football Jason Wilcox.
The decision was communicated to the 39-year-old during a meeting on Monday morning with Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada, where he was informed he had been relieved of his duties.
In an official statement, Manchester United said: “The club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that now is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of achieving the highest possible Premier League finish.”
Former United midfielder Darren Fletcher has been placed in interim charge and will lead the team for Wednesday night’s trip to Burnley.
