Rubanda District — Police in Rubanda District are investigating a murder case that occurred on August 22, 2026, in Rwebakyenga Cell, Igomanda Parish, Hamurwa Sub-county. The deceased has been identified as Zikanyizira Binareta, 64, a resident of Rwebakyenga Village, Igomanda Parish, Hamurwa Sub-county, Rubanda District.
According to preliminary police findings, the deceased allegedly developed a misunderstanding with her husband, Tigwabuza Nazariyo, 69, who is alleged to have assaulted her with a stick, locally known as enkoni, hitting her on the head.
Police said the deceased attempted to flee but fell off a cliff and died at the scene. Police responded to the incident and conveyed the deceased’s body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Nelson Tumushime, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
