NAMAYUMBA / WAKISO: The government has been urged to intervene in allegations that some criminal-minded individuals posing as real estate dealers are systematically inflicting untold suffering—including torture and, in extreme cases, death—on aggrieved families.

This development follows a growing public outcry, particularly within the Buganda region, where thousands of families are reportedly losing their land or estates to organized criminal groups. These groups are believed to operate under the protection of powerful individuals within government circles and the courts of law.

One such case involves Hajji Suleiman Lwamba of Kasanga Village, Namayumba Town Council, Busiro County in Wakiso District. He has allegedly lost 15 acres of prime land and is seeking the intervention of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni through the State House Presidential Taskforce on Land and Environment.

In an exclusive interview with this website on Friday, September 11, 2025, Hajji Lwamba revealed that his family has endured torture, imprisonment, destruction of property, and the loss of their land in a scheme allegedly orchestrated by Ronald Mutesasira, the purported proprietor of Tabula Real Estate and Property Agency.

He narrated that Mutesasira, reportedly working with top leadership at Kakiri Police Station, led a raid on their home. The officers allegedly rounded up family members, beat them, and dragged them to the police station, accusing them of committing various crimes.

While this incident was unfolding, security personnel—including police officers—alongside a gang of youth armed with pangas and machetes, reportedly destroyed:

  • 2.5 acres of a coffee plantation
  • 3 acres of banana plantation
  • 4 acres of watermelon
  • 1 acre of passion fruit
  • 0.5 acre of pawpaw

They also allegedly demolished their newly constructed house, which had reached the wall plate level.

Following their release on police bond, 14 family members lodged complaints at Namayumba Police Station, citing charges ranging from assault and causing bodily harm to destruction of property and the killing of animals. However, the police reportedly failed to investigate the complaints. Instead, two of Lwamba’s sons—Ssemperezza Isma (25) and Uthman Walukaaga Sulaiman (31)—were charged with stealing maize.

The two were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kakiri and remanded to Sentema Government Prison until September 25, 2025, when their case is scheduled for mention.

Lwamba himself reportedly suffered a broken tooth, while his 13-year-old daughter and son Ssemperezza sustained broken legs during their arrest by police officers.

He is now calling for immediate intervention by President Museveni, through the Presidential Taskforce on Land and Environment, led by Brig. Gen. Lukyamuzi. Lwamba demands full recovery of their land and the arrest of the Kakiri Police Division Police Commander (DPC) and his officers for their role in the alleged torture and destruction of property. He also wants action taken against the current and former LC1 chairpersons—Wasswa Ben and Swaib Mukiibi—accused of forging sales documents without the family’s consent.

The family also seeks the arrest of Ronald Mutesasira, the alleged mastermind behind the land-grabbing scandal, who has reportedly stationed a container housing armed guards (arrow and bow) on the disputed land.

The desperate family is now reportedly going hungry after losing their entire farmland, which had served as their primary source of food. They are currently surviving on food handouts from Good Samaritans in the village.

They are also pleading for access to medical treatment, as many of them sustained serious injuries during the ordeal but have been unable to seek medical care due to financial constraints.
