KAMPALA-The National Resistance Movement electoral commission has on day one received a total of 795 expressions of interest and picking of nomination forms for NRM primaries aspirants among the three elective categories including constituency member of Parliament, district woman memberofParliament and LCV chairperson.
The EC Boss Tanga Odoi told reporters by close of the day today at Kyadondo that the commission was shocked by overwhelming numbers of aspirants saying it was a sign of steady party growth.
The total for parliament is 427, followed by 210 for women MPs and 144 LCv respectively.
The region with the highest numbers of candidates for parliamentary aspirants was Ankole with 51 for constituency, 21 woman MP, and 14 LCV total of 86 followed by both Bukedi and Busoga with 45,13 and 08 as well as 37, 20 and 09 total 66 each respectively.
Rwenzori registered 29, 14 and 18 total 61 while Teso had 29 MP, 12 and 09 total 50 respectively.
West Nile with 28, 17 and 11 total 56 while Bugisu followed with 28, 12 and 04 total 44 while Kigezi had 25,11 and 05 total 41.
Bunyoro followed with 20, 20 and 09 total 49 while Karamoja registered 20, 16 and 06 total 42 followed by Acholi with 19, 12 and 09 total 40.
Lango followed with 18, 11 and 04 total 33 and greater Kampala registered 18,02 and 02 total 22 with Sebei following with 16, 05 and 07 total 28.
Greater Masaka registered 12, 11 and 10 total 33 while Greater Mubende had 10,06 and 11 total 27 with Greater Luwero registering 11 ,04 and 04 total 19 while Greater Mukono had 11 ,03 and 04 total 18 respectively.
The special interests groups categories included workers MP 03,PWDs02, older persons 06 and youth 03 respectively total 14.
