One person has been confirmed dead and six others seriously injured following a devastating crash that occurred at approximately 5:45 PM in Lwafumu Forest, along the Bunjako–Buwama road in Mpigi District.
According to Michael Kananura, Community Liason Officer (CLO) of the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the May 25, 2025, crash involved a Toyota Drone motor vehicle, registration number UBM 672G, whose driver is currently on the run.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the driver was operating the vehicle at high speed while dangerously transporting passengers in a grossly unsafe manner.
“The vehicle lost control, struck a pavement, and overturned, instantly claiming the life of one passenger and leaving six others injured,” Kananura stated.
He further revealed that the ill-fated vehicle had earlier been flagged down by traffic officers at Lungala, Mpigi, as part of an operation targeting illegal public transporters. UBM 672G was among four vehicles, along with UBG 649K, UBM 631E, and UAR 351Z, intercepted for serious violations.
These included operating without a valid operator’s license, dangerously overloading passengers, driving recklessly, and concealing registration plates.
While the other vehicles were successfully detained and their drivers held at Mpigi Police Station, the driver of UBM 672G defied police directives and fled the scene.
Kananura has urged all motorists to respect and comply with traffic police orders, especially when directed to stop.
“What may appear to be an inconvenience could, in fact, be a critical, life-saving intervention,” he warned.
In a stern message directed at rogue drivers and vehicle operators, Kananura condemned the increasing disregard for public safety on the roads.
“We are aware of the season and the increased movement of people, but public safety must never be compromised. Transporting passengers in unsafe and illegal ways is unacceptable,” he said.
Kananura concluded with an urgent appeal to all road users:
“We call upon everyone, drivers, passengers, and pedestrians, to prioritize safety and value life. Let us work together to prevent these avoidable tragedies on our roads.”
The hunt for the fugitive driver of UBM 672G is ongoing, and police have assured the public that those responsible for endangering lives will face the full force of the law.
