The outgoing Deputy Ambassador of the European Union to Uganda, Guillaume Chartrain, has praised Uganda’s socioeconomic progress during his four-year posting, saying the country’s transformation has significantly improved the livelihoods of its citizens.
Speaking during a farewell meeting with Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe, Chartrain said the country’s social and economic development had strengthened ties between Uganda and the European Union, contributing to closer political and economic cooperation.
Chartrain, who is concluding his diplomatic assignment in Uganda, said the progress made during his tenure reflected positive developments in the country’s growth trajectory.
Kainerugaba welcomed the envoy’s remarks, saying Uganda, alongside the wider African continent, is experiencing steady economic advancement.
He added that the country is pursuing a development path similar to that of other nations that have achieved sustained economic growth.
The two officials also discussed broader bilateral issues affecting relations between Uganda and the European Union, according to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Chartrain pledged to continue supporting stronger cooperation between Uganda and the EU in his next diplomatic posting.
Kainerugaba, who also serves as Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, thanked the outgoing diplomat for his engagement during his time in Uganda and wished him success in his future assignments.
