SOROTI , Uganda — More than 700 students from the Teso sub-region have enlisted for free education bursaries offered by the African Hospitality Initiative (AHI Uganda), a local humanitarian non-governmental organisation aimed at supporting vulnerable but academically promising learners.
The enrolment and dedication ceremony was held over the weekend at Zion Gospel Church in Television Ward, Soroti City, where students, parents, political leaders and religious leaders gathered to witness the launch of the education support programme.
The dedication prayer service was presided over by Apostle Paul Humble, who thanked God for what he described as a life-changing opportunity for hundreds of financially challenged children across the region.
“We are humbled by the works of Almighty God for creating an education opportunity through AHI Uganda for hundreds of bright but financially challenged students to access education within the Teso sub-region,” Apostle Humble said during the ceremony.
Apostle Humble, who also serves as the AHI Uganda Project Coordinator for the Teso region, addressed more than 700 beneficiary students and over 200 parents in attendance, emphasizing the importance of education in transforming communities and securing the future of children.
“Whoever invests resources in the education journey of children deserves to be celebrated as a hero because they empower young people to become responsible citizens of integrity despite their challenging backgrounds,” he noted.
He further commended the Country Director of AHI Uganda, Apostle Dr. Isaac Luganda, for spearheading the bursary initiative, describing the intervention as a strategic and impactful decision that will positively change many lives in the region.
Parents also welcomed the initiative, saying it had come at a critical time when many families are struggling financially.
Speaking on behalf of the parents, Agnes Apolot expressed gratitude to AHI Uganda and Apostle Dr. Isaac Luganda for extending support to vulnerable children.
“This programme has come at the right time because many parents cannot afford school fees and scholastic materials for their children,” Apolot said.
The beneficiary students were drawn from several districts across the Teso sub-region and beyond, including Ngora, Kumi, Katakwi, Bukedea and Amuru. They were later deployed to various partner schools, including Gosheng East Wing Primary School, Santa Lucia Primary School and Hadasa Secondary School among others.
