Police have intensified efforts against rising cases of phone theft after an intelligence-led operation on the night of May 17, 2026 led to the recovery of multiple suspected stolen electronic items along Mawanda Road in Kawempe Division, Kampala.
According to police, the operation was carried out at around 11:00pm and targeted motorcycle-riding suspects believed to have been terrorizing residents in the area through a series of phone snatching incidents.
During the patrol, officers intercepted two men travelling on a motorcycle along Mawanda Road.
However, upon noticing the police presence, the suspects abandoned a small grey bag and fled the scene on their motorcycle.
A search of the abandoned bag revealed a cache of suspected stolen property, including several iPhones, Tecno smartphones, a Samsung mobile phone, and a laptop computer.
Police have since launched efforts to identify and trace the rightful owners of the recovered items as investigations continue to track down the suspects behind the incidents.
Authorities say operations in the area will continue as part of broader efforts to curb phone snatching and related street crime.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Kawala Racheal confirmed the operation and reiterated ongoing commitment to tackling urban theft cases in the city.
