In response to rising complaints from motorists about thefts of motor vehicle parts, Kampala police launched a targeted operation to curb the criminal activity along Wampewo, Punjan, and the former Electoral Commission stretch.

The crackdown, carried out on October 23rd and 24th, 2025, aims to restore safety and security in these hotspot areas notorious for phone snatching, bag thefts, and motor vehicle accessory thefts.
According to Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the operation was intelligence-led and focused on dismantling the criminal network responsible for stealing car parts such as side mirrors, baby mirrors, grills, lamps, and other accessories.
“Several stolen motor vehicle parts were recovered during the operation, including baby mirrors, side mirrors, grills for Toyota Harriers, lamps, and other accessories. The recoveries were made in the Kiseka area,” ASP Owoyesigyire noted.

The police successfully arrested two suspects, one of whom is believed to be a key promoter within the theft syndicate. The operation is ongoing, and authorities have assured the public that further details will be shared as investigations continue.
This crackdown underscores the police’s commitment to tackling vehicle-related crimes and ensuring safety for all residents and motorists in Kampala. More updates are expected as security efforts intensify in these areas.
