The President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Janet Kataaha have today registered to renew their national IDs.
The President, a retired general, and his wife, the Minister of Education and Sports, joined millions of Ugandans in this process.

The registration happened at the State Lodge Nakasero, where a team from the National Identification Authority (NIRA) led by Executive Director Rosemary Kisembo conducted the exercise.
This renewal marks ten years since the initial registration of IDs, many of which expired last year. The government extended the validity period by an additional year, ending this July.
The move comes just as Uganda prepares for the 2026 General Elections.
After completing the process, the President shared a message on his official X account formerly Twitter, encouraging all eligible Ugandans to follow suit.
“Maama Janet and I registered today at Nakasero to renew our IDs. I urge everyone eligible to do the same for better service delivery,” he said.
The President has consistently emphasized citizen registration’s importance. The President believes it improves national security and helps in verification using modern biometric tools.
