KAMPALA, Uganda- President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to collect nomination forms for the position of National Resistance Movement (NRM) party chairperson and presidential flag bearer on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
The forms will be picked from the party’s Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala.
Museveni, who has led the NRM since its inception, seeks to retain his position as party chairperson and member of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), in addition to representing the party in the forthcoming presidential elections.
His move aligns with the Kyobe Resolution passed in 2019, in which the NRM Central Executive Committee and parliamentary caucus unanimously endorsed him as the party’s sole candidate for the 2021 elections and beyond, citing his leadership experience and strategic vision for the nation.
Dr. Odoi confirmed that while formal nominations for all CEC aspirants will take place on July 4, 2025, the window for expression of interest opens on June 26, 2025.
The party leadership has ring-fenced the position of presidential flag bearer for Museveni, a decision that continues to draw criticism from some members within the party.
Last week, a 36-year-old NRM party member, Julius Tumuhimbise from Busenyi, caused a stir when he arrived at the Commission offices demanding nomination forms to contest for the NRM presidential flag.
He was turned away by officials who informed him that the process had not yet been opened. Tumuhimbise insisted that, as a party member, he had the right to contest for the highest office.
