EDUCATION- The Headmistress of Budadiri Girls Secondary School, Sister Margaret Katusabe, has commended the Minister of Education and Sports, who also serves as the First Lady, Janet Kataha Museveni, for supporting the school’s infrastructure development agenda.
She noted that this support has significantly contributed to the school’s improved performance and rising academic standards.
Located in Sironko District, the school has been allocated 350 Senior One placement slots by the government. The majority of the students come from neighboring districts, including Mbale, Bulambuli, Sironko, and Soroti. This development, she said, reflects the growing confidence that surrounding communities have in the institution.
Sister Katusabe observed that, with the intervention of the First Lady, the school has rapidly grown into a beacon of quality education within the Bugisu region. The institution has attracted substantial funding for infrastructure development, including the installation of fully internet-connected computers provided by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).

Despite facing challenges in the recent past, Katusabe expressed gratitude for the support received under the Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Program (USEEP). The program facilitated the acquisition of state-of-the-art digital teaching laboratories, computers, printers, and other essential learning equipment. These resources have also enabled the school to offer free vocational skills training opportunities to members of the surrounding community.
The school actively participates in co-curricular activities such as music, dance and drama, sports, and science fairs. In 2025, the school competed at the National Science Fair held at Kololo Secondary School in Kampala.
In addition, Budadiri Girls Secondary School runs several practical outdoor programs, including tailoring, goat rearing, general farming, and the production of liquid soap. These hands-on skills training initiatives are aimed at empowering girls and women within the region.
Sister Katusabe also thanked the school board for its financial and technical support and guidance, which have enabled the institution to make a meaningful impact within the community. She further expressed appreciation to the Sironko District Local Government authorities for their continued support.
