Ugandan boxing hopes suffered a setback after Shadir Musa Bwogi, the undefeated in nine professional bouts, was stopped by Croatian Luka Plantić in a WBC International Super Middleweight title clash at the Olympic Park.
Though he lost the fight, Bwogi, 29, who was accompanied by his trainer Twaibu Mayanja, pfroved a step too far. In the fight, the Bwogi, started aggressively, landing powerful combinations and demonstrating the athleticism that has marked his rise. However, many punched were off target.
However, Plantić, undefeated in 20 bouts, maintained relentless pressure throughout. Bwogi was down in rounds eight and nine, and ultimately was stopped on his feet.
Plantić’s superior preparation, both physically and mentally, proved decisive. Despite the loss, Bwogi remains a celebrated figure in Ugandan boxing, known for his underdog triumphs, including a notable victory over Jason Medi in South Africa to claim the ABU Super Middleweight title.
Though his perfect professional record is gone, Bwogi’s courage and fighting spirit continue to inspire a new generation of Ugandan boxers.
Since Kassim Ouma captured a world title in the early 2000s, no Ugandan boxer has managed to reach the same heights.
