A quiet night in Nakuwadde Village turned violent in the early hours of May 1, 2026, when an unsuspecting resident was attacked in a brazen robbery. According to police, the victim was confronted by an unknown assailant wielding a panga, who made off with a mobile phone and cash after the assault.
But the suspect’s escape was short-lived. In a striking show of community vigilance, nearby residents quickly mobilized, tracked down the alleged attacker, and apprehended him before he could disappear.
The man, identified as 21-year-old Marvib Kiyinji, was reportedly found with the stolen phone still in his possession.
The Kampala Metropolitan deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said he was later handed over to authorities and remains in police custody as investigations continue into the incident.
Police have praised the swift and coordinated response of the community, noting that such actions play a crucial role in deterring crime.
Owoyesigyire also urged members of the public to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
